# Themes

Pick a color theme, or build your own for your organization or for yourself.

A theme sets the colors and corner radius of the SteelEngine interface. Themes come in three scopes, and every member picks one per organization.

## Who can do what

## Open the gallery

The gallery lives at `https://steelengine.com/<your-org>/themes`. You can reach it from:

* **Organization Settings** sidebar, under **Appearance**
* The theme menu in the workspace sidebar, then **All themes**
* **Workspace Settings → General**, then **Open themes**

The gallery has three sections.

Click a theme to select it. You can use one theme in one organization and a different theme in another.

## Build a theme

Select **New theme** in the **Organization** or **Yours** section.

The editor opens with a **Start from** strip. Pick one starting point:

* **Choose a logo**: upload an image and the editor extracts its colors
* **Company website**: enter a domain and the editor reads the site's brand colors from its theme metadata, manifest, stylesheets and icons
* **Seed color**: pick one color and the editor derives the rest
* A built-in theme, to adjust from a known palette

Then choose a **Base appearance**, Light or Dark, and adjust the **Radius** and the color dials. The editor shows a contrast badge for each color role and a live preview. Name the theme and save it.

Website extraction is limited to 10 lookups per user per minute. If a site cannot be read, the editor tells you why and you can continue from a seed color instead.

## Linked pairs

A theme is built on one base, Light or Dark. To give it a partner on the opposite base, open its menu in the gallery and select **Add a dark version** or **Add a light version**. The editor opens with the partner pre-filled from the original, and saving links the two as a pair.

A linked pair appears once in the gallery. Select **Use both** on the pair to follow your device appearance, the same way **System** does for the built-in themes, or select either half on its own.

## Edit and delete

Open a theme from the gallery to edit it. Saving a theme never changes anyone's selection. Deleting one does, as the table above describes.

## Themes and white-label branding

White-label colors apply only while a built-in theme is selected. A custom theme replaces them. The white-label logo and wordmark apply under every theme. See [Enterprise](/enterprise) for white-label setup.
